prequel, sequel… what’s going on, with star trek 11?

Empire Online (http://www.empireonline.co.uk) spoke with “Mission: Impossible 3″ director JJ Abrams about the recent reports that he will be directing “Star Trek XI” and says that it’s a lot of hoopla over nothing.

“The whole thing was reported entirely without our cooperation,” Abrams said. “People learned that I was producing a ‘Star Trek’ film, that I had an option to direct it, they hear rumors of what the thing was going to be and ran with a story that is not entirely accurate.”

As for the proposed story, the “Lost” creator continues: “We’ve made a pact not to discuss any specifics.”

He did hint, however, that he would like to bring back Spock, Kirk and other original characters from the series. “Those characters are so spectacular. I just think that… you know, they could live again.”

Previously, Variety hinted that “Star Trek XI” would focus on the early days of the Enterprise.

star trek XI movie should NOT be a prequel.

The message is simple. We do not want a prequel in any form for the next Star Trek movie, ST.11. For example we do not want a movie about Kirk and Spock’s teen years at the Academy similar to the ‘Wesley Crusher’ storyline.

star trek’s synthehol now possible?

Synthehol is a science-fictional substitute for alcohol that appears on the Star Trek:The Next Generation television series. It allows drinkers to experience all of the enjoyable, intoxicating effects of alcohol without unpleasant side-effects like hangovers.

Professor David Nutt, a psychopharmacologist at the University of Bristol in the UK, believes that there is no scientific reason why it cannot be created now.

trektoday
Former “Dallas” star Ken Kercheval, Randee Heller (“The Karate Kid”), Tony Burton (“Rocky Balboa”), “Larry Wilcox” (CHIPS), and Avery Brooks (“Star Trek : Deep Space Nine”) have also signed on. (Interesting to note that Kercheval was up for the role of Colonel Keating, a part that ultimately went to James Brolin.)
