cineconEmpire Online (http://www.empireonline.co.uk) spoke with “Mission: Impossible 3″ director JJ Abrams about the recent reports that he will be directing “Star Trek XI” and says that it’s a lot of hoopla over nothing.
“The whole thing was reported entirely without our cooperation,” Abrams said. “People learned that I was producing a ‘Star Trek’ film, that I had an option to direct it, they hear rumors of what the thing was going to be and ran with a story that is not entirely accurate.”
As for the proposed story, the “Lost” creator continues: “We’ve made a pact not to discuss any specifics.”
He did hint, however, that he would like to bring back Spock, Kirk and other original characters from the series. “Those characters are so spectacular. I just think that… you know, they could live again.”
Previously, Variety hinted that “Star Trek XI” would focus on the early days of the Enterprise.
