THE SKINNY: You can never have enough things … This is apparently the philosophy of Universal Pictures and Strike Entertainment (previous collaborators on the DAWN OF THE DEAD remake, SLITHER and the upcoming CHILDREN OF MEN). The studio and the production company have announced that they’re embarking on a new version of John W. Campbell’s short story WHO GOES THERE?, better known to filmgoers as 1951’s THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD, directed by Christian Nyby and produced by Howard Hawks. Director/producer John Carpenter’s 1982 edition, THE THING, with mind-blowing special effects by Rob Bottin, is probably best known to today’s viewers. It’s likely that the new THING will resemble the Carpenter interpretation, with an alien that can look like anyone or anything giving bloody grief to a crew of researchers in Antarctica. Ronald D. Moore (executive producer of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, also produced by NBC/Universal) is writing the screenplay. [ifmagazine]
